The second week in August introduces a traditional display of a guitar virtuosity.
The 19th International Guitar Festival BRNO´10 has been active for many years in bringing to Brno the biggest world stars of the flamenco and classical guitar. The festival will be open on Sunday August 8th by the Flamenco Night at Špilberk, which will belong to a top guitar-player Gerardo Nuňez, often compared to Paco de Lucia and the female dancer Carmen Cortes.
The festival will continue all week in the rooms of the New Town Hall. Already on Monday 9th of August it will celebrate the 65th birthday of the Czech guitar-player and composer Štěpán Rak. At the concert of the toastee there will perform also his friends PF Guitar Quartet, Vladislav Bláha and others.
In the following days a Czech guitar legend, composer and the doyen of the Czech guitar school Jiří Jirmal will perform his own jazz repertoire. From the younger musicians we will have the chance to hear the guitar-player Gabriel Guillen from Venezuela, an excellent Italian guitar-player Andre Vettoretti or an Italian-Hungarian guitar duo Salvatore Zema and Esther Lencsés. A big experience will be the concert of Ernesto Tomayo from Cuba, whose debut in Carnegie Hall some time ago in New York has become a real sensation.
A festive end of the festival on Friday August 13th will be connected to the concert of an excellent American guitar player, composer and the Grammy Awardee Andrew York.
