The International Guitar Festival BRNO´10

The second week in August introduces a traditional display of a guitar virtuosity.


The 19th International Guitar Festival BRNO´10 has been active for many years in bringing to Brno the biggest world stars of the flamenco and classical guitar. The festival will be open on Sunday August 8th by the Flamenco Night at Špilberk, which will belong to a top guitar-player Gerardo Nuňez, often compared to Paco de Lucia and the female dancer Carmen Cortes.

 

The festival will continue all week in the rooms of the New Town Hall. Already on Monday 9th of August it will celebrate the 65th birthday of the Czech guitar-player and composer Štěpán Rak. At the concert of the toastee there will perform also his friends PF Guitar Quartet, Vladislav Bláha and others.

IRISH DEW

IRISH DEW is a unique Czech music group aimed at the traditional Irish music performed mostly in its acoustic version. Their songs connect elements of folk, rock, world and classical music. As the fans of the Celtic music have still been interested in Irish Dew a lot, they return again to give a performance at the courtyard of the Old Town Hall with the songs from their four CDs. The cast of the group has changed within the time of their existence. At present, the group performs with the following musicians: Václav Veselý (previously co-operated for example with Framus Five or Etc), Jan Veselý, Robert Fischmann and Vojtěch Jindra.

The Day of Brno

13.–15. 8. 2010, Radnická Street, Courtyard of the Old Town Hall, centre of the city of Brno

 

 

The event is held every day as a commemoration of an important historical event connected to the history of Brno and the heroism of the Brno citizens during the siege of the city by the Swedish troops in the time of the 30-Year-War in the year 1645, when a small group of the defenders of the city with the help of the Brno citizens resisted to the attack of the huge number of the Swedish army of the general Torstenson and Brno was not defeated.


In an attractive and a summer-holiday relaxing way this historical event is presented to the tourists and the Brno inhabitants. Part of it are also battle scenes.

A Sale Exhibition of Photos and Oil Paintings of Jan Saudek

20. 7. – 12. 9. 2010, The Sale Gallery at Radnická 10

 

 

The Brno Cultural Centre, allowance organization, has within the frame of its activities decided to support the cultural events in the City of Brno by a co-operation with the Gallery of Ms. L. Kučerová – Saudekgallery , in a form of a sale exhibition in the rooms of the Old Town Hall, Radnická 10 – The Crystal Hall and the Sales Hall in the time from 20.7. 2010 to 12. 9. 2010. The exhibition is thematically aimed at the works of Jan Saudek.
The space is open every day from 10.30 to 17.00.


Admission: adults 50 CZK, reduced 25 CZK (students , seniors and handicapped ), children under 10 years of age 20 CZK , the family admission 100 CZK (2 adults and 2 children).


A gala evening with a fashion show Elegance Paris and jewels from Venezuela will be held on 29. 7. 2010 at 17.00. The evening will be visited by Sára and Samuel Saudek.
